The Modern

Soul & Rock n' Roll - The Modern

The Modern are a four-piece indie band from Worcester, England. The band, formed in 2009, have a loyal fan following and have become favourite live act for many at venues across the UK.

Where Did All The Good Times Go? - the band's confident, often brisk debut album - was released in the Summer of 2010. The nine-track blustery LP was recorded over five days and produced by the accomplished Gavin Monaghan (Ocean Colour Scene/The Twang/Editors) in his Black Country-based Magic Garden Studios. Several tracks are available to download and the CD is available to buy at Modern gigs.

'Turn it up loud' was one way a fan recently summed up their new album. Fine words.

The Modern are currently debuting tracks from the album along with new download single 'Featherstone' at live venues in and around the Midlands. The band and have seen album tracks such as the catchy Rise and Shine and the Stone Roses-esque Stand Your Ground being well received by their growing fanbase.

Behind the music and lyrics are frontman Luke Morris and lead guitarist Connor McMinn. Will Lawrence on bass and Nat Garfield on drums provide the backdrop to The Modern's ever-improving 'wall of sound' - a sound sculpted on some of the major influences of their generation. Think the poetry of The Libertines, the rawness of Dundee's finest Kyle Falconer and jangly John Squire riffs - all pieced together with a small but brilliant sprinkling of prime-time Gallagher swagger.

Morris' lyrics, delivery and presence are reminiscent of a young, trouble-free Peter Doherty whilst McMinn's superheated guitars make sure The Modern, live or in your iPod, punch above their weight and, as many see it, on the brink of big break show time.

The Modern have very much arrived.

More and more are waving the flag and heaping praise on these four young Midlands lads who have that rare 'something' - a talent and potential which only raises its head every now and then.
